BOG’s Skyline Hills Library Project of the Year!

AWPA San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter Awards

BOG Constructions is pleased to announce that the American Public Works Association’s (AWPA) San Diego and Imperial Valley Chapter honored the City of San Diego’s Skyline Library with the top prize, Project of the Year in the 6- to 25-million dollar category. BOG’s Engineering Production Manager Jim Ebrahim attended last month’s event to accept the award along with NTD Architecture (now Little Diversified Architectural Consulting). The award ceremony was held in conjunction with National Public Works Week, May 21-27.

About Skyline Hills Library
Located in southeast San Diego county, the 15,000 sq. ft. library is the first branch library built in city in more than ten years.

The project addresses the needs of the diverse neighborhoods of Skyline Hills and Paradise Hills communities with modern amenities such as a computer lab, children and teenager areas, indoor kitchen, outdoor coffee kiosk and reading patio. The library will host educational events throughout the year and is a central hub for families of all ages to gather and enjoy learning. Built with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, its model of reducing the San Diego’s carbon footprint will pave the way for future libraries in our city.

Project Details
An interesting structural feature is the dramatic saddle-shaped roof. Design details include:

• Roof construction consisting of wood I-joists or solid sawn joists spanning to steel beams, glue-laminated beams on bearing walls.
• The upward sloping nature of the main roof resulted in the use of curved glue-laminated beams supported by steel columns.

BOG’s design maintains the structural integrity of the building while fulfilling NTD’s vision of an organic shape to the building’s profile. For more information, please visit the project detail page.
